World Book Day 2019

There was great excitement in St. Peter’s on Friday 8th March when we celebrated World Book Day. This was the first year that we celebrated by dressing up and it was fantastic to see the wealth of colour and imagination that went into the costumes of characters from books (by both children and teachers!).

At 10a.m. we held a World Book Day parade in the Halla and the children enjoyed guessing the characters on display. Two winners were chosen from each class, with an overall prize for most effort awarded to 3rd Class.

After lunch the senior classes (3rd – 6th) had a table quiz to test their knowledge about all things book related. There were questions on novels the children had studied in different classes, a general knowledge round, David Walliams round, a fairytale headline round and much more. The winning team was team 24 with an unbelievable score of 103/110, meaning they only got 7 questions wrong out of the entire 11 rounds. The winning team each received a book token.

Each classroom celebrated World Book Day by completing lots of different activities, using D.E.A.R (Drop Everything And Read) and paired reading between classes. Each child also received a €1.50 book token to use before the end of March in any participating bookshop. Here is a sample of some of the work that took place during the week.
