Stay Green & Stay Active!

St. Peter’s N.S Dromiskin is proud to be involved in the Green School Programme. We received our first Green Flag in 2001 when Principal Gertie Mc Gee, Eithne Mc Kiernan and school staff, all the parents and children made a huge effort. In 2012 we received our 6th award under the theme of Biodiversity. The school promotes a strong partnership between staff, pupils and parents and reaches out to the wider community. We work closely with Dromiskin Tidy Towns, the Community Employment Scheme, Fás, the Environmental Section Louth County Council and An Taisce in promoting the care and nurturing of our environment.

In 2014 we  secured our Global Citizenship Litter and Waste flag. In 2015/16 we embarked on our programme for the next Green Flag – Global Citizenship – Energy. Click HERE to see some of our work. In 2015 we were awarded National Walking School of the Year after our participation in an Taisce’s Big Travel Challenge. Click HERE for more information.

In 2016/17 we were part of a National Pilot project in Global Citizenship – Marine Environment and we renewed our Green Flag in May 2018.

St. Peter’s have been long time participants in Louth County Council’s Eco Tribes Project and have completed some lovely projects around Dromiskin – the raised beds on the green opposite Centra, theplanted tyres and Irish hedge at the AOH hall, the Celtic Knot in the Heritage Park, and the willow weaving opposite the Credit Union. We also take part in the Council’s annual GROW awards and are proud to have 5 star status representing all the hard work put in by pupils, staff and parents. In June 2018 we were awarded School of the Year in the Ardee Municipal District (see picture).

Look at our video on the Building of Dromiskin’s Peace Garden (one of our projects) where the whole community took part under the supervision of Pamela Whitaker.
