IMPORTANT: Letter to Parents & Guardians regarding reopening of school on Thursday the 27th of August

Dear Parents,

We hope you are all well and are enjoying the summer holidays.

We are really looking forward to seeing your children on August 27th! We hope our Covid-19 school safety procedures will help you feel confident about your child’s safe return to school. It will be an anxious time for you all, but we are very confident in St. Peter’s N.S. that our new policies and procedures will go a long way to help keep everyone safe in school. We will need all your support and help to make your child’s return to school an exciting and happy one.

Please read the following points carefully – there is a lot to take in.

School opens on Thursday 27th August….

  1. Arrival times are staggered alphabetically: 8.35, 8.45 and 8.55, and departure times are 2.35, 2.45 and 2.55 – you will be notified next week of your child’s arrival and departure times.

  2. Children are asked to walk/cycle/scoot to school if at all possible to help reduce traffic around the school.

  3. Junior Infant children will be arriving later at 9.30 and will finish school at 12 noon until Monday September 7th.

  4. Senior Infants will finish school at 1.40 as usual.

  5. When they arrive in the morning, children will be directed to designated areas to line up with their class where they will be collected by their teachers.

  6. It is our intention to take your child’s temperature and the temperature of each staff member each morning to ensure everyone is safe and well. Consent forms will be issued in advance.

  7. All children are to wear their school uniform or track suit. Please note: velcro shoes for children who can’t tie laces, and elasticated bottoms for children who can’t manage to button trousers.

  8. Teachers and SNAs will be wearing masks or visors at all times to protect themselves and your children.

  9. Please ensure your child washes his/her hands before leaving home; we have hand sanitizers at all entry points and in every room throughout the school.

  10. Children will use the good hand and cough hygiene practices put in place before school closed in March.

  11. Play times are staggered, and playground areas have been allocated to each class group.

  12. Children must be able to open their own drink bottle and lunch box, which should not contain anything they can’t open for themselves. Lunch boxes must be washed thoroughly every evening.

  13. Please provide your child with 2 pencil-cases containing necessary writing materials – one will be kept at home and the other will remain in school. Sharing of such materials will not be permitted.

  14. Parents are asked to maintain a physical distance of 2 metres in the car park when waiting to collect children at home time.

  15. Messages for teachers can be sent by email, class dojo or by phoning the school office. Meetings can take place via zoom.

We have spent lots of time preparing for our return to school, and our complete Covid-19 Plan for St. Peter’s N.S. will be available on our school website next week with more detailed information.

Enjoy the rest of the summer holidays.
