IMG_5542As part of the commemorations of the Eater Rising in 1916, Tuesday 15th March was designated Proclamation Day in Primary and Secondary schools throughout Ireland.

We were delighted to celebrate this special occasion and we were theilled to see so many parents/grandparents/parishioners attending with the pupils and staff of Dromiskin NS. We had the following programme of events

  • Introduction by Fr Pat Mc Enroe, Chairperson Board of Management and 6th class pupil
  • Traditional music with Noreen Mc Manus and her young fiddlers
  • Irish Dancing with Niamh, Abby and Catherine
  • Poetry – “Easter” by Dorothy Mc Ardle read by Kalea
  • Reading of the 1916 Proclamation by 5th and 6th classes
  • Reading of the 2016 Dromiskin Proclamation with pupils, staff, parent and Board of Management
  • Information on the flag provided by 5th class
  • Raising of the Flag by pupils, staff, Board member and parent
  • Amhrán na bhFiann – sung enthusiastically by all present

We had three proclamations on display!! The one presented to the Old School in 1966, the one  (as Gaeilge and as Bearla) presented to us by the army in October 2015 and the special Dromiskin proclamation for 2016 put together by the pupils and staff of St Peter’s NS especially for the 1916 centenary. We also had a wonderful display of  medals from this era provided by Emer and Aoife. Their great grandmother Gertie Murphy (neé Colley) was a member of Cumann na mBan and was active during 1916. The medals were proudly displayed all around the school and fascinated the children
