9th Green Flag for St. Peter’s N.S. Dromiskin
Congratulations to the whole school community on receiving our 9th Green Flag for Global Citizenship Travel.
Global Citizenship Travel is the ninth theme of the Green-Schools programme. The ultimate aim of the theme is to continue our school’s work on encouraging walking, cycling, scooting, using public transport or carpooling to school. This theme helped us to discover how we can have a positive effect on global issues including air quality and sustainable development.
A big thank you to the Green Schools’ Committee for promoting our very successful campaigns, Cycle on Wednesday ( C.O.W.) and Walk Out On Friday ( W.O.O.F.). We had a busy two years with Walking Buses, interviews for RTÉ with Brenda O’Donoghue for the Today Show and numerous campaigns such as Car Idling Pollutes the Air and Bicycle Workshops for children and parents.
The hard work and dedication to promote healthier options to travel has paid off and we are delighted to receive yet another Green Flag for our Dromiskin Community. A big thank you to all the parents who ensure children walk, scoot, cycle and car pool to school. Keep up the good work. A big thank you to Dromiskin Tidy Towns Committee for supporting us every day, especially on the big days when we needed extra people power to supervise the roads as we journeyed to school.
We say goodbye to the following members of the Green Schools Committee: Sinéad Temple, Finn Malone, Katie Preston, Ethan McNally, Catherine Carey, Sophie Cassidy and Eoghan Oakes. We are looking forward to the election of new committee members this week. Their first job will be to decide how and when we will hoist our new Green Flag. We will work towards the Green Flag for Global Citizenship Food and Diversity over the next two years. Many thanks for the great team spirit of pupils, parents, staff and community in achieving this award.
Please keep checking our website for details on hoisting Green Flag for Global Citizenship Travel.
