The Green Schools Committee was busy promoting the messages of Climate Action Week and once again the pupils at St Peter’s NS showed their knowledge and expertise in their actions and creativity.
- We promoted COW on Wednesday and WOOF on Friday and even though the weather was inclement, pupils did their very best to walk, cycle, scoot and park n’ ride on both days.
- The Climate Action Poster competition shared messages to Recycle clothes, Reuse Plastic and Visit your local Bottle Bank, Plant Trees to Promote Biodiversity and Reduce Your Carbon Emissions to protect our Environment.
- The week finished off with the Green Schools Committee and the winners of the poster competition invited to Dromiskin Tidy Towns Climate Action Week Event in the Heritage Park. Councillor Robert Nash, Chairman of Dundalk Municipal District presented the winners of the poster competition with a prize and certificate. He acknowledged the wonderful work of Dromiskin Tidy Towns on their planting of 36 fruit trees in the community orchard along Siúl na Manaigh. This is a wonderful addition to our already enriching BiodiversityProgramme in Dromiskin. In the words of Kevin Halpenny, Landscape Architect- Think Globally Act Locally. We are certainly doing our part to promote Climate Action Week and we are so proud of our partnership with Dromiskin Tidy Towns and the wider Dromiskin Community.
Thank You to Rian and Aoife for their wonderful recitation of a poem which will be the mission statement for the Green Schools 13th Green Flag, due to be raised in June 2026.

In Dromiskin where plants and flowers all grow,
We’re taking on climate — let’s give it a go!
We’ve got our orchard with apples so sweet,
Buzzing with bees — what a treat!
We walk or we cycle, we share every ride,
Less smoke in the air, more joy inside.
Turn off the lights when you leave the room,
Save some energy — banish the gloom!
Reusable cups for our coffee and chat,
No throwaway rubbish — imagine that!
We plant a new tree and water it too,
It gives us clean air — its the least we can do.
Recycling bins, green and brown,
Keep Dromiskin tidy, don’t let us down!
From waste to wonder, from small to grand,
We’re caring together for our lovely land.
So join in the fun, be part of the team,
A greener Dromiskin — our climate action dream!
