5th Class Visit Leinster House

Ms Rodgers and 5th class were delighted to accept an invitation from Senator John McGahon to visit Leinster House on Wednesday 7th February. As the children walked from the gallery overlooking the Dáil to the Portrait Gallery displaying previous Taoisigh and onwards to the Seanad, it was clear that this is the way to learn your Irish History.

Senator John mcGahon gave an informative, interesting talk on previous historical politicians from Daniel O’Connell to Charles Stewart Parnell and of course Michael Collins and Eamon DeValera. The children were invited into the same room where Joe Biden stood on his visit to the Leinster House. They sat at the same oval table where fanous men from 1922, Minister for Justice Kevin O’Higgins, Minister for Defence Richard Mulcahy and William T Cosgrave, President of the Irish Executive Council discussed the dreadful news of the assassination of their colleague, Michael Collins.

We would like to thank Senator John McGahon for his hospitality and generosity of time, especially on this sombre day when the Irish flag was at half-mast due to the death of previous Taoiseach and Fine Gael leader, John Bruton. We hope this visit will inspire the boys and girks in 5th class to explore their Irish History and Politics and who knows- to create history of their own some day in the field of politics.

Well done to all the Dromiskin children for their exceptional interest and excellent questions- commented the usher and tour guide.
