This November and December, our primary school explored native trees and plants, helping children understand the natural environment around St Peter’s school grounds. Pupils learned to identify local native species, discover how they grow and survive, and understand why they are important for wildlife, people, and the ecosystem. Thank you to Ross Cochrane from the Heritage Council of Ireland for his informative workshops with 1st, 3rd, 4th and 6th classes. Through hands-on activities, outdoor learning, art, storytelling, and simple science investigations, children developed curiosity, respect, and a sense of responsibility for protecting our native plants and trees.

Many thanks to Ms Mulholland and the boys and girls from 4th class for their wonderful rap song, encapsulating so much of the information learned during the workshop with Ross.
