Healthy Eating

2004/2005

St. Peter’s has adopted a “healthy eating” policy. We are very mindful of the concerns expressed by medical experts regarding the high numbers of overweight and/or obese children. This in many cases is directly related to poor diet. We have devised the following rules:

·        No crisps

·        No fizzy drinks

·        No high fat, high sugar bars

·        Servings of fruit and vegetables highly recommended

·        Use a proper lunch box

·        No plastic bags, cartons or aluminium tinfoil if possible

·        Reuse plastic bottles

Sample healthy lunch snacks are provided for the children. The parents committee have also promoted “Fruit and Veg” days which take place at regular intervals. These have been very successful in introducing portions of fruit and vegetables into the children’s diet.

This year we have introduced a healthy eating policy in our school. Parents from our school organised a special Fruit and Vegetable Day, where the children could try a variety of different fruit and vegetables. Many thanks to the parents and the generous sponsors for a great day!
