 Our Vegetable Garden

We have just started making a vegetable garden. First Jemmy made new frames for the vegetable patches with timber. Then two boys from 6th class dug the soil with rakes and spades. They also had to remove the big stones.

Then our class took out our gardening tools, our onion sets, ice-berg lettuce, turnip, runner beans, and beetroot. Then all our class went outside. Then we made drills with sticks and string. To make it the sticks had to be parallel to the edge of the frame. Then we sprinkled our seeds into the drills and covered them over. We put the onion sets at 6 inch intervals. After that the boys came out and made wigwams for the runner beans. The runner bean seeds are much bigger than the others! We put two at each stick, so they can climb up it.

Now all we can do is hope that the weather will be sunny and bright but we’ll need a few showers to help them grow also. But our work is still not done. We will still have to do a lot of weeding and other hard jobs. So as you can see, planting is not as easy as it sounds!!!!!!!!!!!
