The 4th and 5th Class School Tour On the 3rd of June 4th and 5th class went on their school tour to the Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh. It was really good. On the bus we watched Fantastic Four. Geraldine and Bernard were with us as well as Mrs Farrell. The bus drive took 2 hours and I was sitting beside Niamh. Since there were so many of us we were put into groups. Geraldine had one group, Bernard had another group and Mrs Farrell had the last group. I was in Mrs Farrell’s group. We had 2 guides called Liz and Audrey. My group had Liz. Bernard and Geraldine’s group had Audrey. First when we got there, we had our lunch. Then the guides came. The guides took us to the folk park. We started in America. Then we went into Castletown National School. It was built in 1845. We went into the general store. It was really good. There was a Blacksmith’s forge. He had water which, if you put your hand in it, would get rid of warts. Aideen put her hand in! After that we went to the ship. It took 12 weeks to get from Ireland to America by sea. The animals we saw there were pigs, horses, donkeys and chickens. We got popcorn and corn bread. We learned about the Campbell brothers and Thomas Mellon and his family. The gift shop was cool! It had sweets, key rings and lots more. If I had my way I would be back again next year! By Tara

Our Class Newspaper: “The School Star” We had the idea of making a class newspaper after we looked at the different types of newspapers. Each person in our class made something for the newspaper, like news reports, sports reports, interviews, cartoon strips, puzzles, advertisements, horoscopes, fashion and health items, TV guides and cinema guides. Some articles featured an eight-limbed girl, a boat that sank and Madeline McCann. There were also reviews of movies, PS2 games and books. Some puzzles were Suduko, crosswords and mazes. We all had lots of fun making something for our class newspaper.

A DAY AT THE MUSEUM On Friday the 7th of December, 4th and 5th Class went to the Dundalk Museum. We were very excited. We were collected at 11.30 and when we arrived at the museum it was 12.00. In the hall we met the Friary’s 1st class. First we went into the theatre and a man called Hugh told us a story. It was about a little boy called Jimmy O’Farrell and it was set at Christmas time. Next we did some art. We had to draw Polar Bears using chalk and glitter pens. After the art we went back to the theatre and watched a movie about a baby duck called Seán who managed to survive winter on his own, with the help of a mole. It was a good movie and when it was over we had a small tour of the museum. There was an exhibition about Sir Francis Leopold McClintock from Dundalk who was an Arctic explorer. The trip was coming to an end and we were sad when it was time to leave. We got on the bus and went back to school. By Kieran and Adam.
