CREDIT UNION ALL-IRELAND QUIZ 2008

We qualified for the Credit Union All-Ireland Quiz after winning the local and chapter levels. The national finals were in the Main Hall, RDS on the 6th of April 2008. We were against another 48 crack teams. We registered at 11:00 a:m and went for something to eat. In the build-up to the quiz the DJ (Lorcan Murray) started to play music. At 12:00 p:m all teams had photos with Uel Adair (president of the Irish League of Credit Unions) and Brian Ormond (presenter of You’re a Star).
The quiz started at 1:30 p:m. We were behind for 5 rounds then went ahead by 1 point in the 6th round. We were ahead by 2 points in the 7th round. Again ahead by 2 in the 8th and by 1 in the 9th and in the end we won by a slender margin of 2 points. Dromiskin were All Ireland champions for the very first time.
We won a trophy and huge plaques along with a Sony PSP and €1,270 for the school.
After that we were like celebrities! There were photographers chasing us and we also had an interview with the presenter of news2day on RTÉ 2.
The quiz team, their parents, Mr. Mulligan, his wife and Ms. Farrell went for a meal in Donegans, Monasterboice which was generously paid for by Darver Credit Union. After that we had a convoy through Dromiskin. It was a great day.
The following day the pupils had a guard of honour for us and that afternoon there was a disco.

LMFM our local radio station called out to the school and did a live broadcast Fame at last!! The Party Celebrations! In honour of the quiz team's great success the school had a party to celebrate. DJ Joey provided the music and we had a disco, where some of the teachers strutted their stuff (not to single anyone out in particular - but you know who you are!!!) The children also got crisps and drinks and as an extra special treat got the night off homework (which doesn't happen too often so the quiz team were even more popular!)

QUIZ CHAPTER CHAMPIONS 2008!!
Zagreb is the capital of what country? Know the answer? Well this
was the question that decided the 2008 Credit Uunion Quiz and
luckily for us our superb quiz team came up with the correct
answer!! Thirty crack teams from Louth, Monaghan and Cavan took part
in the Chapter Final of the Irish League of Credit Unions Schools'
Quiz in a packed Fairways Hotel on Saturday 1st March. Winners of
the U.11 "A" Section were St. Peter's N.S. Dromiskin, who were
delighted to win this prestigious competition for the first time.
They pipped Muff N.S. from Co. Cavan in a nerve racking,
sudden-death tie-break. Both teams finished with a total of fifty
points out of a possible sixty after ten, tense rounds. Belturbet
N.S., Co. Cavan also, was in third place. The winning team, all from
Ms. Farrell's 5th class, as well as the runners up, progress to the
All Ireland finals held in the RDS, Dublin, in April. Well done to
our four maestros who have worked so hard to make it this far.

was ............ Croatia!!
The Darver Credit Union annual quiz and Poster Competition awards were held in St. Peter's N.S. recently.
The Poster winners were: 11-13 age group -1st Marie Christine Mc Manus, 2nd Heather Walsh and 3rd Sofie Owens. 8-10 age group - 1st Róisín Mc Manus, 2nd Liam Fussey and 3rd Sian Agnew. 8 and under - 1st Callie Agnew, 2nd Bryan Knipe and 3rd Dylan Byrne.
