On Wednesday the 18th of April St Peter’s held the school’s Spelling Bee Final. We had ten finalists with five competitors from Mr Mc Comish’s 5th class and five from Ms Keane’s 6th class. Over a number of weeks both classes held  spelling competitions to choose the finalists so needless to to say these ten students were top class spellers.

The whole school packed the hall and Ms Keane asked the spellings after settling the nerves of the competitors with a practice round. She began with easy spellings and then moved on to the medium level. After six rounds there were still 8 children in the competition and Ms Keane began on the hard spellings!!  Some of these were impossible and Ms Keane said she hadn’t even heard of some of them. Try a-b-e-c-e-d-a-r-i-a-n or a-f-f-e-n-p-i-n-s-c-h-e-r!! Wow! Needless to say boys and girls were eliminated one by one and eventually we had a winner. And the winning spelling?

B-A-L-L-E-R-I-N-A

Our champion goes on to the County Final in the Grammar School, Dundalk, on Monday 30th  April. We wish her the very best of luck!
