What an achievement by our girls’ basketball team who for the second year in a row won the Liby Dynamites’ Primary School Tournament held in the Community Centre Dromiskin on Monday 29 May! Coaches Anne Mc Guinness and Ms Lambert deserve great credit for all the hard work they put in throughout the year and they were delighted with their team’s performance on the day.

They pipped a very strong St Oliver Plunkett’s Blackrock outfit in the semi-final which went to a nerve-wracking extra time decider. A high pressure free throw was what divided the teams in the end. On then to the final where they faced old rivals Kilsaran to decide the home of the prestigious Liby Dynamites cup. Basketball Ireland’s president, Theresa Walsh, was in attendance as the Dromiskin girls powered to a 20-8 victory. To add to the occasion Niamh was selected as MVP on the day and she gracefully accepted the award on behalf of the team and coaches. Parents and supporters lifted the roof of the Community Centre with their cheers. Well done girls and coaches Anne and Ms Lambert!!

The boys team had bowed earlier after a gallant performance against St Columcille’s, Drogheda, the eventual winners.
