dsc_0534Congratulations to St. Josephs who were crowned Louth Intermediate football champions 2016 after their 2-8 to 0-12 victory over Mattock Rangers in Dowdallshill on Sunday 25th September.

The pupils and staff were delighted when their heroes took the Flood Cup to the school the next day. Decked out in the Joe’s colours they formed a guard of honour to welcome the victorious team in to St. Peter’s. The PE hall was packed as principal Mr Mulligan congratulated them on their achievement and mentioned how they could inspire the next generation of young footballers in the parish. He was delighted to see so many past pupils play their part in bringing back silverware to Dromiskin school for the first time in ten years.

Chairperson of the Board of Management Fr Pat Mc Enroe spoke of how inspirational their win was and urged them to begin preparing in earnest for their participation in the Leinster Intermediate championship where they play the Carlow champions in October.

Chairperson of St Josephs, Michael Kinahan mentioned previous victories by St Josephs and how their exploits have served to help the club continue to grow. Michael was followed by the Joe’s captain and past pupil Daire Smyth. Daire thanked the pupils and their parents for their support in Dowdallshill and encouraged them to keep playing football and to enjoy sport. He received a rapturous round of applause from all present.

The players retired to the school grounds where they patiently signed autographs for their young admirers. The children were delighted when the Joe’s club kindly provided refreshments for each and every child. We’re sure they’ll remember the visit for a long time and we hope we don’t have to wait another ten years for such excitement!!
