Food Dudes

Food Dudes is a programme designed to encourage children to eat and enjoy a healthy amount of fruit and vegetables, both in school and at home. It is one of the methods employed to battle the growing problem of obesity in our population. The programme  is funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and managed by Bord Bia.

DSCN0299Children in Junior Infants, Senior Infants, First and Second classes will have 16 Fruit and Veg tasting days beginning on Friday 2nd October. Children from 3rd to 6th classes inclusive will have 4 tasting days at designated times in that period. There will be rewards/stickers for children who test both fruit and veg, progressing to rewards for those who eat full portions. There are also Food Dudes DVDs, letters and activities for school and for parents at home.

After the 16 days it is hoped that children will continue to take their own fruit and veg to school in their specially provided Food Dude lunchboxes. Each child can log their consumption in classroom wall charts provided and work towards a special Food Dude certificate.

A big thank you to teacher Ms Halpenny for co-ordinating the programme.

Happy and healthy eating!!
