On Friday 30th November 2018 Ms Keane’s Sixth class went on a field trip to Newgrange and the Battle of the Boyne site. Orlagh came with us too.

First off we went to Newgrange. We got on the bus at five to nine and we left for County Meath at nine o’clock.   When we arrived at Newgrange centre we got a sticker for the time of our bus. Then we got to look around the museum and examined what people were like back then. We had our little break before we got on the shuttle bus. That bus took us the short distance to the Newgrange monument.

We got lots of information  about Newgrange. The guide was very impressed with all the research we had done in class with Ms Keane. We went in to the passage tomb right down in to the chamber. Our tour guide showed us around and we got to see a light show that looked like it was December 21st, the winter solstice. Subsequently we  got back on our bus and it took us back to the Newgrange Centre.

After, we got outside where we ate our big lunch. We then got on our bus to take us to the Battle of the Boyne site at Oldbridge House. We got very interesting information about the battle and what they used and how they fired their weapons. In a while we got to go inside and look around. We saw what they were like and how they acted. We were told the difference between a Jacobite and a Williamite soldier. After that we saw a spectacular laser show that showed us what the war was like and what strategies they used against one another.

Then it was time for a walk around the fabulous walled garden which was very well kept. We then got on our bus to go back to school just in time to do our jobs at 2.30pm!
