DSCN0865 - Copy (3)Dromiskin were delighted to be crowned mid-Louth, Cumann na mBunscol, quiz champions on Tuesday 17th November.

They took their place in the county final in Knockbridge school one week later. Facing them in the large school section (6 teachers or more) were teams from Scoil Aonghusa and St Joseph’s, Drogheda, Bay Estate and CBS, Dundalk, Collon NS, Termonfechin and hosts Knockbridge.

A wide range of topics were covered ranging from general knowledge, history, geography, politics, music and entertainment,  picture rounds, sport and with two questions per round dedicated to the GAA. The standard throughout was very high and Dromiskin trailed St. Joseph’s, Knockbridge and CBS Dundalk for most of the early section of the quiz. However, a blistering finish of three perfect tens in the last three rounds saw St. Peter’s join St. Josephs on 75 marks out of 80 and thus force a tie break with our Drogheda neighbours.

The tie break consisted of 5 questions but in nerve tingling fashion both teams got full marks to see the quiz and the title of champions of Louth settled on a sudden death question – How many All Ireland senior football men’s titles have Cork, Down and Galway won between them? Tensions ran high but it was the children and families of St. Peter’s who cheered with delight when Dromiskin’s estimate of 23 titles proved closest. Champions of Louth and by the narrowest of possible margins!!

Our victorious team was presented with lovely plaques and cup by excellent quizmaster Mr Mc Donnell, principal St Mary’s NS, Knockbridge. Many thanks to our loyal parents and families for their support and a special mention to Mr Richie Forde, Dundalk, who each year sets the questions in a quiz that is thoroughly enjoyed by the children
