Congratulations to our senior quiz team who progressed to the county finals of the annual Cumann na mBunscol schools’ quiz. They travelled to Knockbridge on Tuesday 15 November to take part in the Mid Louth (large rural school section) qualifier. Here they were up against teams (8 in total) from Kilsaran, Kilcurry, Blackrock, Haggardstown as well as hosts St. Mary’s, with the top two teams to progress to the Louth final.

As usual Richie Ford served up a varied and comprehensive set of questions which kept all the competitors and the spectators on their toes. Quizmaster Mr Brian Mc Donnell, Principal of St Mary’s, asked a range of teasers covering sport, history, politics, maths, GAA, film and TV as well as general knowledge.

Emerging on top with an unbelievable score of 77 out of 80 was the Knockbridge B team who will now be one of the favourites to win the county title. Knocbridge A team are unlucky because, despite finishing in second place, only one team from each school is allowed to progress to the county decider. This meant that Dromiskin who were third, with an excellent score of 71 out of 80, will take their place in the Louth final on Tuesday 22 November, 3.30pm, again in Knockbridge.

The team performed very well in the final finishing in 3rd place with an impressive 74 marks out of 80. Winners after a tie break was Bay Estate from Dundalk with Knockbridge as runners up. Both teams scored an unbelievable 77 marks out of 80!!

Many thanks to parents for lifts and support.
